Delight In You

Through cloudless skies
the sun beats down
unobstructed upon my back.
Brow sweat gathers,
a blister forms upon my hand
whilst a curious butterfly
surveys the change.

I dig you this hole,
the humblest of abodes.
I do hope you enjoy it,
please make yourself at home.
Grow steadily
and bloom proudly.

Display your colours
and release your scent
for all to enjoy.
May I pick you
at the height of your beauty
to give to this girl I like?

A petite parcel of perfection,
so delicately intricate,
so aesthetically self assured.
Some of Mother Nature's finest work,
a true artist is she.

We so crassly attempt
to imitate and replicate
your flawless grace.
Please forgive us and
take it only as a compliment.

I see you open wide
basking in the sun rays.
You look so happy,
did I just see you smiling?

Where do you go when the sun sleeps?
Closed to the world, are you dreaming?
Do you dream of being free
like a bird or a bee?
Or perhaps of growing tall
like the Pōhutukawa tree?

It's time to wake up!
The sun's back to play.
It acts as your spotlight,
the garden your stage.
Please open up and reveal your wares,
so I can continue to stare
and delight in you oncemore.
